Congratulations !!! We have raised the monies needed to buy the minibus for the Children's Village

Many thanks to all the our friends and members who have generously donated to this worthy cause. As of November 11th, 2006 SD Canada, SDI, SD Norway and YUM itself have raised approximately $14,000 which will be used to purchase the minibus, pay for insurance and any other incidentals. SO MANY THANKS but we would ask you not to donate any more to this cause.

Any amounts raised beyond that needed for the minibus and its related costs will go towards needed repairs of the Children's Village buildings, or towards capital requirements of other worthy Susila Dharma projects!

best wishes for the holiday season and please do not forget those in need,

The Susila Dharma Canada team

An orphanage in Indonesia desperately needs to replace its old minibus with a newer, safer and more reliable vehicle to transport children to and from schools every day. The orphanage is called the “Children’s Village” and is home to about 50 children, ranging in age from 6 – 17. Different age groups have different schools to attend outside the orphanage, four schools in all, which means several minibus trips a day. Additionally, the minibus is used to go to the market each day to pick up fresh produce for the children’s meals. So this vehicle is necessary for the education and well-being of the children. Their current vehicle is a Mitsubishi minibus (1995) and is requiring more and more repairs, which means that funds that could be used for the children’s care are being depleted rapidly. In addition, the minibus breaks down en route which is quite disturbing for the children. The cost of a new Mitsubishi Colt L300 Diesel is about CDN$12,300, after subtracting the trade-in value of the current vehicle. We are seeking to raise this amount from GiveMeaning in order to be able to purchase the new minibus for the children. We hope you will support this fundraising effort because the Children’s Village has worked hard to build and maintain an excellent reputation for the highest quality childcare over the past 30 years. This year, the orphanage was selected from amongst 102 orphanages to be the Cianjur Regency nominee in a West Java award competition. This award is only given out once every five years and is called “The Best Orphanage Management Award”. The aim of the Children’s Village project is to raise, nurture and educate orphans or financially destitute children so that they become self-reliant, self-disciplined young adults with sufficient education and skills to provide for themselves by the time they leave the orphanage. They are financially supported to attend school, are provided with all their basic needs and supplies (food, clothing, schoolbooks and supplies, medical care), and are given counseling and moral values in a loving, family-style environment. The children at the orphanage are either orphans, from broken homes and very poor homes, or from troubled families who cannot support their children emotionally or financially. The Children’s Village is owned and managed by the Foundation for Noble Work (Yayasan Usaha Mulia), a registered charity in the Republic of Indonesia, and is also an associate member of Susila Dharma International, which has consultative status with the UN Economic and Social Council (ECOSOC) and the UN Children’s Fund (UNICEF). The Children’s Village is one of five projects currently being managed by the Foundation. Please – give generously!
